Our Organization

Lac La Biche County was formed in August of 2007, when the Town of Lac La Biche and Lakeland County amalgamated. The result is a diverse mixture of urban and rural areas.

Our Vision: Lac La Biche County is proud to be a diverse, healthy and safe community. Our citizens are engaged and enjoy enhanced social and recreational amenities. We are economically resilient as we continue to invest in top-quality infrastructure and services. We are environmental stewards who promote our natural assets, making Lac La Biche County the destination choice of northern Alberta.

Our Mission: To build a region of excellence by delivering progressive, sustainable programs and services.

Our logo symbolizes aspects of the community that our residents take pride in, like natural beauty and diversity. The blue and green shapes represent water and trees, and when combined with the orange dots they resemble people in abstract form.

Operating Guiding Principles

Lac La Biche County Administration adopted official Operating Guiding Principles in 2017. These are timeless rules that govern the County's decision-making and day-to-day activities.

How the County Operates

Lac La Biche County is governed by a Mayor and eight Councillors, who together form County Council. They are elected by local residents every four years, as outlined in Alberta's Municipal Government Act. Council determines the municipality's strategic direction, creates bylaws and policies to govern the County, sets an annual budget for operations and capital projects, and provides other direction to the County's Administration on municipal programs and services.

Council has one employee: the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). As the head of Administration, the CAO's job is to advise Council, implement the decisions Council makes and manage the delivery of municipal services. The rest of Administration is grouped into various departments.

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy

As an open and transparent organization, the County makes every effort to meet requests for public information about policies, programs, decisions and actions. However, the organization follows strict guidelines to ensure personal information is protected. The County also complies with the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act.

If you need to request confidential information from the County, you have the right to submit a FOIP request. Fees for this may be charged, depending on employee time and research required for collecting the information.
