Join us for a week of environmental awareness and sustainability! 

Lac La Biche County is recognizing Waste Reduction Week by highlighting a number of local programs and services offered to residents. We're also sharing information about environmentally minded projects in our community. Together we can reduce the amount of waste transferred to our landfills!

Waste Reduction Week Events

Monday, Oct. 18 – Virtual Tour of Beaver Lake Landfill

Join us for a virtual tour of Beaver Lake Landfill. This tour is also being made available to local schools for education on landfill operations, recycling programs, and what we can all do to help reduce our waste. 

 

Tuesday, Nov. 2, 6 PM (Virtual) – Vermicomposting Workshop - hosted by LICA – Environmental Stewards

Worms

Learn the basics of year-round composting – with worms! Vermicomposting is a great way to turn organic waste into fertilizer. Attend our virtual workshop and learn how to build your own vermicomposting bin.

Thursday, Oct. 21 – Community Waste & Recycling Trailer

Did you know that Lac La Biche County has a waste and recycling trailer available for residents to use free of charge for community events? The trailer comes with compartments for waste and recycling materials, so keeping your materials sorted is a breeze. We will drop it off empty and pick it up full, so it’s convenient for you. Friday, Oct.22 – Virtual Tour of Portage College’s composting digester

Join Portage College for a virtual tour of the composting digester.  This virtual tour will document how the college’s composting digester works to divert waste from the landfill and creating value added opportunities.

 

Saturday, Oct. 23 - Household Hazardous Waste Round-up and Shredding Event - County Centre

Residents can bring household cleaners and other items that could harm the environment if not disposed of properly. A secure shredder will be available for safe recycling of confidential documents. Please note this event is for residential waste and shredding, and we will not be able to accept items from commercial customers. Participants will receive a free gift.

 

TIPPING FEES

During Waste Reduction Week (October 18-24) there will be no residential tipping fees at our landfills for residential waste and recycling.
