Fire jurisdictions in Lac La Biche County

Post Date:05/25/2018 8:56 AM

Wildfire conditions continue to be extreme in Lac La Biche County.

Going into the weekend, it’s a good idea to clarify which fire permitting jurisdiction your property falls under: the Green Zone (the jurisdiction of the Government of Alberta’s Agriculture & Forestry department), or the Yellow Zone (the jurisdiction of Lac La Biche County).

Click here to view a small map of the permitting zones, or click here to view a larger version of the map that shows the permitting zones broken down by quarter section.

Green Zone (AKA the forest protection area, under the Government of Alberta’s jurisdiction):

A FIRE RESTRICTION is in place. This means no backyard fire pits and random campfires. No charcoal briquettes, turkey fryers, tiki torches, fireworks and exploding targets. All fire permits are suspended. The following are allowed: campfires in fire rings in designated campgrounds, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues designed for cooking, catalytic or infrared style heaters. Visit albertafirebans.ca for more information.

The fire restriction will remain in effect until conditions improve. If you have any questions, please call 780-623-5388.

Yellow Zone (under Lac La Biche County’s jurisdiction)

A FIRE BAN is in place. This means no backyard fire pits and random campfires. No charcoal briquettes, turkey fryers, tiki torches, fireworks and exploding targets. All fire permits are suspended. The following are allowed: portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbeques designed for cooking, catalytic or infrared style heaters. Visit albertafirebans.ca for more information.

The fire ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. If you have any questions, please call 780-623-6767.
