Local Sports Hall of Fame coming to Bold Center
The Bold Center will soon be honouring all of the boldest names in local sports and recreation.
A Local Sports Hall of Fame and Inspiration Wall is coming to the multiplex, to celebrate athletes’ achievements and recognize people who have made great contributions to sports in the community.
Local amateur and professional athletes, teams and “builders” – people like coaches, trainers, managers and referees, without whom sports could not happen – are all eligible for nomination. The aim of the project is to instill a sense of community pride and encourage interest in local sports.
“The Bold Center is a community facility, so with this initiative, people will be able to walk in and learn about the achievements of people they know and recognize in the community,” said Darrell Lessmeister, Senior Manager of Recreation and Community Enhancement. “We have a vibrant sporting community that we ought to be proud of. As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles, we want to acknowledge and celebrate people’s accomplishments.”
Up to 10 inductees will be selected for the hall of fame each year. All inductees will be recognized with framed portraits and biographies, and some athletes will be featured on a life-sized inspirational wall mural.
The deadline for nominations is October 1. Nomination forms and information about eligibility are available at the Bold Center, and can also be found on the Bold Center’s website.
