Surveillance Camera Installation Beginning Soon
Lac La Biche County is installing eight surveillance cameras on the intersection of 101 Avenue and 101 Street (two on each light post near Alberta Treasury Branch, Smiley’s Furniture, the Dollar Store, and Subway). The cameras are intended to promote public safety, and to aid law enforcement in their investigations.
Installation will begin on July 17 or 18. Please be mindful of workers in the area, and obey all signage.
When the cameras are installed, recordings will only be accessible to the County’s Information Technology and Enforcement Services departments, along with the RCMP. No other County employee has access to the recordings, recordings cannot be released to the public (as per the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection Act), and recordings are kept for 30 days.
The cameras are only for enforcement related to pedestrians on sidewalks and nearby roads, and will only be consulted after the fact—no one will be monitoring the cameras in real time. The cameras are not intended for traffic enforcement.
