County hosting "Reaching Out To Seniors" conference
Awareness-raising conference will be a first for Lac La Biche County
As part of an ongoing commitment to improve services for seniors, Lac La Biche County Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is hosting a special conference to highlight seniors’ issues.
The one-day conference on June 1, called “Reaching Out To Seniors,” will promote empathy and understanding of the unique challenges that older adults face. The event will include a resource fair for seniors and the general public to find out more about services that are available in the community.
“Support for seniors is critical because older people are valued members of our community, but they can also become very vulnerable community members, too,” said Mayor Omer Moghrabi. “Some of the barriers they face are not widely understood. I commend our local FCSS department for shedding light on this and helping people gain new insight.”
The conference will be held at the Bold Center. Registration costs $20, and the registration deadline is Friday, May 26. Speakers include Donna Durand, Executive Director of the Alberta Council on Aging, and Dr. Sheree Kwong-See, the Province of Alberta’s official Seniors’ Advocate.
The County acknowledges the Government of Canada’s support through the New Horizons for Seniors Program. People interested in registering for this event are encouraged to visit the County’s website for more information.
