Natural Gas Odourants and Gas Leak Concerns

Post Date:03/31/2017 3:05 PM

The County's Utilities department has been receiving a high volume of natural gas concerns in our area. This is due to higher than normal odourant levels - odourants are added to natural gas so they can be detected.

The odourant itself is not harmful or flammable, but tends to carry through natural gas appliances if the level is too high.

We are currently working to resolve the high odourant levels, and thank you for your patience. Regardless, we ask that residents err on the side of caution - please continue to call us at 780-623-7494 if odourant is detected to determine if there is a gas leak or not.
